Philip Assassinated — Alexander Takes the Throne

Philip II is assassinated by his bodyguard Pausanias at Aigai during his daughter's wedding. Alexander, aged 20, is proclaimed king by the army. He immediately purges rival claimants — executing Attalus's faction and securing oaths of loyalty from the Companion cavalry. The crisis of succession is resolved within hours, but the political fallout will take weeks to settle.
